I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help

Rural Hotel Es Castell

Ive been reading Robert Graves autobiography, "Goodbye to all that", and in it he points out that the original Hebrew version of this Psalm should be translated as "I will lift up mine eyes to the hills. From whence cometh my help?" A question, not a statement, the sense changes entirely.

This has nothing to do with fincahotels, Finca Es Castell or indeed anything small hotel related, but I think its interesting! There is also something of a small connection due to Robert Graves living here in Mallorca for the most part of his adult life. Two of his children, Tomas and William, have written books about Mallorca, and William even ran one of the first Agroturismo Hotels on the island. Id reccomend them both, Tomas´s book "Bread and Oil" is a lyrical rhapsody of rural mallorcan life, wheras Williams book "Wild Olives" is more of a family revelation, and the more interesting for it. Its very good at creating the emotions of the olive groves and dry stone walls, cool cellers and imposing views, which we at Finca Es Castell are pround to maintain, albeit in a Rural Hotel offering relaxing holidays as opposed to Williams desire to carry on living here.
